K9 Portrait Contest

K9 handlers and their partners have a special bond.  They’re workmates throughout each shift and family members when they head home.  These K9s work hard to provide capabilities humans don’t have, like drug and explosive detection, tracking, and apprehension skills.  To recognize and honor them, we’re celebrating the love between working dogs and their handlers by awarding one winner a custom, hand-drawn portrait of their K9 by artist Scott Vitolins.

Scott Vitolins brings his love of art and his love of animals together in his meticulously hand-drawn portraits of beloved pets.  Each requires 20+ hours of artistry using colored pencils to create a result that fools the eye with seeming photo-realism for just a moment, before revealing the true nature and personality of your animal in a way that photography cannot.  To see more of Scott’s pet drawings, visit svitolinsart.com.

For a chance to win, complete the following information—and be sure to tell us something special, or a great story about your K9!  If chosen, the artist will be in direct contact with you in order to get the best quality photo possible to work from based on his style. 

One winner will be selected to receive:

  • One 16″ x 20″ hand-drawn colored pencil portrait of their K9
  • $150 framing credit to have the portrait mounted
  • A box of Planet Dog Orbee Balls for their K9

Winner will be selected in June 2019 and announced on July 1st, 2019.  Artwork will ship to the winner in mid-August 2019.

THE NEED

Over 900,000 law enforcement officers honorably serve the population of the United States - that equates to 1 officer for every 350 citizens. On average, 125 officers are lost and another 15,000 are injured in the line of duty each year. Yet funding for safety equipment and training is dwindling as tax revenues decline. The need for supplemental funding to protect these officers has never been greater.
